A visual tour of the plant, its equipment and the production process at the Gohar Zamin Steel complex. Based in Bardsir County, Kerman Province, Gohar Zamin Steel plays an important part in completing Iran’s steel value chain by producing high-quality sponge iron. This report takes a closer look.
Background
Using direct reduction technology and pellets produced in the region, the Gohar Zamin Steel complex has built a stable position as a supplier of feedstock to steelmakers. Careful production planning, preventive maintenance and continuous quality monitoring have been the three pillars of this journey.
Key figures
- Nominal capacity of 3.44 million tonnes of sponge iron a year (phase 1)
- High metallization and uniform product quality
- Quality, safety and environmental management systems in place
Process and technology
In direct reduction, oxygen is removed from iron ore pellets, producing a material with a high iron content that is the main feedstock of electric arc furnaces. Precise control of temperature, reducing gas composition and residence time determines the final quality.
Consistent product quality is the result of care at every stage of production and the commitment of our colleagues on every shift.
Quality control
Regular sampling and chemical testing in the plant laboratory ensure that the sponge iron stays within standard ranges and meets customer needs. Product analysis results are published periodically.
Looking ahead
Capacity expansion, lower energy and water use, and closer cooperation with universities and research centers are the main plans for the coming years, supporting both the company’s growth and the sustainable development of the region.
